Locally owned by Bridget Shumway, Generations Child Care opened it doors in 1993 to child care; elder care opened not long after. The company started with one location and 16 employees, now operates 7 centers with over 150 employees. Generations offers comprehensive programming as well as intergenerational activities to bring both age groups together. Generations is the only inter-generational day care program of its type in Monroe County. Serving families of all backgrounds, Generations has earned the respect of many for its community involvement in a variety of early-education efforts as well as the inter-generational component that brings about positive encounters for both children and seniors. Generations programming is nationally recognized by NECPA (National Early Childhood Program Accreditation).
Generations offers a wide variety of programs throughout all seven centers including Universal Pre-K at our 4 city locations, school age and summer camp. Generations Child Care currently partners with Young Audiences of Rochester offering families at our Gates and Stenson Street locations the opportunity to learn different art forms in a new and exciting after-school program called Art for Learning. The only program of its kind in Monroe County, Art for Learning is an after-school program designed for school age children that involves enhancing literacy skills while exploring the arts.
